Allow us to introduce ourselves. Agile Movement is an online educational video-based platform designed for PTs and PTAs by a PT to solve one of the largest issues in PT education: building and effectively using a repertoire of foundational exercises. Trying to learn exercises from a textbook and one lab session is comical. There's a reason why people play games deciphering actions from descriptions.Â

The Anatomy
of Our Platform
Our platform features 200+ videos teaching a multitude of exercises and stretches organized into 7 courses: ankle/foot, knee, hip, back, neck, shoulder, and wrist/hand.
Each course includes three types of videos:

-
Introduction
-
Assessment
-
Exercise
Â
Unique to our site, each video is taught by our founder and features demonstrations with a live model. In addition to video information, video summaries include CPT code explanations followed by comprehension quizzes and a final application-based course quiz.
Â
The featured exercises are curated to provide a solid foundation of professional capabilities to build upon and are intentionally selected to fit within each course to mirror the order of a patient treatment plan.
Each introduction video contains a brief review of the area's relevant structures (muscles, tendons, bones, etc.) and how they interact with other areas of they body to form an interconnected "chain". Other comments include tips from years of clinical experience and commonalities between injuries to the area.

Introduction to the Ankle
5:24Â min.

Assessment videos include an explanation of various quick evaluations that measure the range of motion and mobility of joints and soft tissue to give clinicians an idea of the limitations of the patient and some insight of the injury.

Posture / Assessment of the Neck
3:16 min.
Exercise videos include a comprehensive explanation of each exercise or stretch: a breakdown of all movements (both correct and incorrect), some common compensations and how to correct them via cueing, the rationale behind prescribing the exercise, & the exercise progression.

Â
While Agile Movement is a relatively
new service, our founder is not new to the world of physical therapy.

Lisa Altamirano is a practicing clinician who has 28 years of experience under her belt and has worked as an APTA certified C.I. for 27Â of those years. In her clinic, she has observed the evolution of physical therapy education over the years during the training of clinicians and PT students.

While physical therapy education has progressed in some areas, many students enter the clinic with certain blindspots. In her own life as a bright-eyed young clinician entering her clinical rounds, certain aspects of the job, like evaluation and movement analysis, came easily while others left Lisa feeling underprepared and unconfident in her practicing ability.

Â
Like many others, the greatest challenge moving from the classroom to the clinic was the process of creating effective treatment plans for her patients, specifically selecting, prescribing, facilitating, and progressing exercises from the limited number that she knew in addition to guessing treatment time lengths, sets, and repetitions.

In her attempt to build a repertoire of exercises, she scoured the available resources. Instead of one source providing the information she sought, Lisa compiled it from bits and pieces scattered across books, journals, articles, exercise card catalogs, C.I. recommendations, the rudimentary options available on the internet, and mentorship with a renowned orthopedic surgeon.

Present day, the system has not improved much. Often the practicing power of young clinicians relies heavily on the level of instruction and attention from their C.I. which can lead to inconsistencies in the quality of care across the profession. Outside attempts to seek more instruction often involve searches of Youtube and social media where the most readily available content found relates to gym workouts which can be dangerous for patients who have barely mastered basic movements or who have hidden muscle weakness.Â

To bridge this education gap, she has created a methodology to supplement classroom learning and better prepare PT and PTA students to treat patients in their clinical rounds.

Now, instead of searching the internet "how to treat ___" or "which exercises are best for ___", this program teaches PTs and PTAs how to understand the exercises at their disposal and design their own treatment plans for their patients with foundational exercises.

The program's intentional design builds upon itself by incrementally increasing the difficulty of foundational exercises in a prescribed order while teaching users how to adapt the system to the direct needs of the patient, giving practicing PTs a firm foundation and springboard.

Â
Basic-level exercises focus on smaller, but necessary, movements that are often overlooked, but lay the foundation for more complex movements that occur later in her series like Moderate-level, intermediate exercises and Advanced-level exercises, specialized movements for patient-specific situations that require highly coordinated movements (both soon to be released).

No more feeling like a deer in the headlights on your first day of clinicals, your first job after graduation, your first time treating an unfamiliar injury, your first specialty change...etc.
